PGA Tour Golf

Date: Oct 20–23, 2022

This week takes us to Congaree golf club in South Carolina for the CJ Cup. This will be an interesting one, as the course has only ever hosted one event before, last year’s palmetto championship. Garrick Higgo won there in one of his first tournaments on the tour.

Brand new to the PGA tour filling in for the RBC Canadian Open, Congaree looks to be a long course that will likely play hard and fast. There’s sandy waste areas guarding the fairway edges and well-placed trouble spots that will force players to either hit it long and try to get over and hit shorter and leave long approach shots. Depending on where they place the tees there are a handful of par 4s that may be drive-able and the par 5s are going to be important for scoring. We think ability around the greens is going to be very important at this course as well as scrambling. Were going to value ball striking a little higher than usual given the variance of lies these players will likely see here. With that being said here are my Key stats for the week in order of importance….

Key Stats: Strokes Gained: Around the Green, Scrambling, Ball Striking, Strokes Gained: Approach, Strokes Gained: Off the Tee

Targets: Because work around the greens will be very important and because we think the course will demand creativity we’ll likely be going with a European heavy line-up. We want guys who can navigate around trouble and hit a variety of shots.

This field is going to be ridiculously strong, with 6 of the top ten and 15 of the worlds top 20 golfers participating. Rory will almost certainly open as a huge favourite in the 900-1100 range.

Our Picks:

Rory Mcllroy @13/2

Coming in at favourite and current tournament champ (Different course) Rory could well shine here again.

Matt Fitzpatrick @22/1

He played in the weak field last time and did quite well. He has all of the shots to be successful here.

Taylor Montgomery @50/1

He’s a great fit for this course and isn’t going to continue being a secret for long.

Sam Burns @28/1

Fits the profile of a bomber who can putt. Always a danger to win any tournament he enters.
