Golf PGA US Open
Date: June 16–19, 2022
The United States Open Championship, commonly known as the U.S. Open, is the annual open national championship of golf in the United States. It is the third of the four major championships in golf, and is on the official schedule of both the PGA Tour and the European Tour.
The Course: The Country Club
The course will play as a par 70 at 7,254 yards and the first observations are that this course has a classic and natural feel to it and is just a gorgeous layout. This feels like a course that requires plenty of imagination and shot-making ability. It just doesn’t feel like a course suited to stock shot makers who can’t move the ball around. This is anything but a typical golf course. The course is full of elevated tees, blind shots, and wild contours all over the fairways and greens. Each hole presents a different challenge, and the course has some of the smallest greens we’ll see averaging just under 4,400 square feet. Also, as with every year at the US Open, the rough will be LONG and THICK. This will be especially hindersome on a course where accuracy is already super important before even taking the rough into account.
The Country Club should suit big hitters more-so than other player style because hitting out of the fairway into these greens is paramount. Landing in the rough will take away any chance of even touching some of these greens meaning scrambling should have a part to play as well in the proceedings. The course will be as much a mental test as a physical one. Given the way the course will likely play we will absolutely be targeting the ”winner in final pairing: NO” bet.
Course history won’t come into play here, but tournament history is something I think is worth looking at. US Opens despite being played at many different courses do seem to share some similarities in the type of player that performs well. When you look at overall strokes gained the last 5 years the first thing you should notice is the star power at the top.
