Another gripping race awaits us as Formula 1 heads to Istanbul for the Turkish GP. After the 2011 season, F1 headed to the venue last season for a thrilling race. Now, with spectators, F1 makes its way back to Istanbul Park. However, racing in October wasn’t a part of the original plan.
The Turkish GP was originally scheduled for the weekend of June 13. However, because of the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country, the second Austrian GP took its place. The race in Istanbul was a replacement itself; one put in place of the race in Montreal.
Before the empty 2020 race, F1 cars last hit the tarmac in Istanbul in 2011. The eight-year hiatus was a result of disagreements between the organizers and the FIA. The race organizers claimed that the hosting fee was too high, while Bernie Ecclestone was sceptical about the lack of profits made due to poor promotion and the relocation of the circuit.
The drivers Championship is really heating up after Lewis Hamilton snatched victory last weekend giving him a 2pt lead over closest rival Max Verstappen, some impressive driving in very wet conditions from the two rivals was a huge blow for another driver.
We all know how strong Hamilton is at driving in wet conditions more often than not he ends up as the winner. That was the case once more at a slippery Sochi, but it was only a result of Lando Norris not pitting for the intermediate tyres. Like for like in the conditions, Norris proved he was a match for Hamilton in a battle of wits out front, which is enormously impressive from a driver seeking that first win.
That said we see Hamilton further extending his lead here in what is likely to be another slippery day. Norris to take a step further towards his first win and Verstappen keeping the pressure on.
