The women’s 200 metres was the second-shortest of the four women’s track races in the Athletics at the 1964 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo. It was held on 18 October and 19 October 1964. 42 athletes from 27 nations entered, with 6 not starting in the first round, now heading back to Tokyo this race will be one to watch.

Our Top 3 Picks:

Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) @4/1

She is the fastest British woman in recorded history and has been listed in the Power list as one of the UK’s most influential people of African/African Caribbean descent, and Britain’s best hope of landing a Medal in the 200m. With a personal best of 21.88 in this race that sort of form will for sure land her a medal to add to a bunch of Junior, World European and past Olympic Championships she already hold, not bad at only 25.

Gabby Thomas (USA) @7/4

Thomas is set to represent the United States in the 200 meter race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Her time of 21.61 seconds in the 200m at the United States Olympic trials on June 26th, 2021 was the 3rd-fastest ever, only  world record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner has gone faster. The time even surprised Thomas herself, after the race she said “It definitely changed how I view myself as a runner. I am still in shock.. my dream was to make the Olympic team now that I’ve accomplished [that], I’m going to set higher goals. 24 year old Thomas is currently studying for a masters degree at the University of Texas in epidemiology.

Shericka Jackson (JAM) @5/1

Jackson switched to the 100 metres and 200 metres for the 2021 season, achieving sub 10.8 seconds and sub 22 seconds personal bests respectively at the Jamaica Olympic Trials in Kingston. Having 400 metres best below 49.5 sec, she’s one of few women to reach such the marks at all those events simultaneously. The 26 year old is an experienced athlete with a PB of 21.81 she will be in the hunt.
