Brighton vs Crystal Palace, 8pm
Prediction: Brighton Win BTTS @3/1
The Brighton–Crystal Palace rivalry, also nicknamed the A23 derby and the M23 derby, is the rivalry between English football teams Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace. The nicknames come from the A23 road and the M23 motorway between Sussex and south London. While the A23 does connect Brighton to Croydon, where Crystal Palace’s stadium is based.
Brighton will have their eyes on all three points on Monday night. Not only would a win give them bragging rights over their M23 Derby rivals, but three points would take them above Crystal Palace as the Seagulls gain traction in their fight for survival.
Roy Hodgson’s side responded to back-to-back victories over Wolves and Newcastle with back-to-back losses against Leeds and then Burnley. The heavy defeat on the weekend to Sean Dyche’s men will have a few Palace fans looking over their shoulders with 18th-placed Fulham fighting for their lives.
Alexis Mac-Allister earned the Seagulls a point last time these two sides met back in October with his last-gasp strike. The Argentine’s goal cancelled out Wilfried Zaha’s first-half penalty, but the meeting ended with Sam Dunk being shown a red card in the dying seconds of the game.
Palace star Zaha is expected to miss the game on Monday night following the hamstring injury he picked up in their 2-1 victory over Newcastle. The Ivorian international is Hodgson’s top scorer in the league this season with nine goals Christian Benteke is second with just three goals.
