Manchester United vs Tottenham (1-6)

A shambolic Manchester United suffered a club record-equalling defeat in the Premier League as they crashed to a 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Son Heung-min and Harry Kane each scored two for Spurs while United’s Anthony Martial was sent off in the 28th minute as Jose Mourinho celebrated a huge victory on his return to the club which dismissed him 22 months ago.

United’s manager had chosen Eric Bailly to partner Harry Maguire in the centre of defence, his first league start at Old Trafford since April 2019, but the pairing delivered a shocking performance.

A brilliant Spurs exposed United’s weakness at the back and made the most of the space given to them in midfield, asking the question of whether Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba can play together in a three-man set-up.

What will also please Mourinho is the fact that his team was stronger, faster and better organised than his former club.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool (7-2)

Some consolation for Man Utd fans. Aston Villa were the better side and picked apart Liverpool. Grealish was at the heart of everything the hosts did well in attack, and Watkins, who hadn’t scored in the Premier League before today, has the match ball thanks to his hat-trick.

As for Liverpool – not sure what to say. We knew they play a risky game in defence but never would anyone have predicted this result. In the words of Roy Keane, they were sloppy and not at the races. What a day in the premier League.
