The men’s individual golf event at the 2020 Summer Olympics is scheduled to take place from 28th July to 1st August 2021 at the Kasumigaseki Country Club. 60 golfers from 35 nations are expected to compete. Here is our best predictions.
Our Picks:
Hideki Matsuyama (JAP), @14/1
Japan’s top-ranked player, Hideki Matsuyama, received an incredible honour in his homeland when he was given the Prime Minister’s Award in the wake of his April Masters victory, when he became the first Japanese male to win a major championship. And now, mere months later, he’ll have the chance to tee it up in his home country, at a course he has fond memories of.
Collin Morikawa (USA), @8/1
Fresh off his Open Championship victory, Morikawa is now the third-ranked player in the world. He’s already won both the PGA Championship and the Open Championship on his first try could a gold medal be next?
Xander Schauffele (USA) @8/1
World No. 5 Xander Schauffele has four PGA Tour wins on his resume, and he has finished runner-up three times this season. He may also have an edge when it comes to familiarity with the country: Schauffele’s mother was raised in Japan, and Schauffele says he has travelled to Japan more than a handful of times.
Tommy Fleetwood (GRB) @28/1
Five-time European Tour winner Fleetwood was crowned European Number One in 2017, finishing ahead of reigning Olympic champion Rose. He went on to make a memorable debut in the 2018 Ryder Cup in France, winning four points out of five.
Paul Casey (GRB) @14/1
Since turning professional in 2000, Casey has recorded 15 European Tour wins – most recently in January 2021 – and three on the PGA TOUR. The current World Number 20 has represented Europe four times in the Ryder Cup, recording three victories over the United States in the biennial contest.
We think USA will try and dominate the Golf with all high ranking players but its the Olympics and we believe there will be a shock.
