The British Grand Prix is a Grand Prix motor race organised in the United Kingdom by the Royal Automobile Club. First held in 1926, the British Grand Prix has been held annually since 1948 and has been a round of the FIA Formula One World Championship every year since 1950. After Covid-19 restrictions Silverstone will welcome a full crowd (140.000). Not everyone is delighted by crowds returning so soon, of course, especially given the still-worrying daily number of new Covid cases affected by the spread of the Delta variant in the UK. Critics point to inconsistencies and contradictions in the approach, and even Hamilton, while acknowledging his excitement to see fans back at his favourite race, suggested it might be “premature”.

British GP, Silverstone 18/07/2021, 3pm

After three pole positions and three wins at the last three events, Red Bull star Max Verstappen has a stranglehold on the title race, but we think the British GP will be a huge dent for him.

Seven-time world champ Hamilton has not won any of the last five races, his longest drought since a disastrous start to the 2016 season.

However, this latest run has coincided with the series mostly visiting tracks at which Hamilton’s Mercedes has traditionally not been at its best.

Valtteri Bottas has a decent qualifying record at Silverstone, but the Finn’s future at the team is in the balance and he has a history of not performing at his best when off-track distractions weigh on him.

Lando Norris is one to watch at his home track. The McLaren driver missed out on pole in Austria last time by just 0.05 seconds.

Our Picks:

Winner: Lewis Hamilton @6/4

Podium: Lando Norris @10/3

Podium: Valtteri Bottas @8/11
