Wimbledon is known for it´s middle Sunday without matches to prepare for “Manic Monday”, when all 4th round matches take place. Such is the case this year, before they change the ruling for 2022. In action today are all the remaining players in the draws so here are our best picks.
Women’s Picks.
Emma Raducanu vs Ajla Tomljanovic, 3.30pm GMT
The 18-year-old British sensation is upsetting the odds and by the time she’s in the fourth round, lots will be expecting her to win this match against Tomljanovic. A dip in level might be incoming, but Raducanu’s victory over Sorana Cirstea was absolutely top-notch, including 30 winners and a really high percentage of points won after the first serve. Keeping it up could get her one round further, especially with the help of the audience, who are already enchanted with her presence.
Our Pick: Raducanu Win @1/1
Karolina Pliskova vs Liudmila Samsonova, 12.30pm GMT
This should be a hard-hitting battle. Samsonova is in amazing form right now, but she also checked out mentally for a large bit of the match against Stephens. Her serve is not quite at Pliskova’s level (hardly any serve in the women’s game), giving a rather substantial advantage to the Czech. It should be really close, but I’ll stick with the more experienced player who suddenly found form at the very right moment, here in London.
Our Pick: Pliskova 2-1 @16/5
Ashleigh Barty vs Barbora Krejcikova, 12pm GMT
The reasoning behind freezing the rankings made sense at the time, but as we (hopefully) head towards a return to normality, it has seen some rankings not reflecting a player’s standing in the game. French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova is one of those players and it’s a shame that one of this pair will be leaving the tournament so early. Ash Barty has looked that much more convincing on the grass.
Our Pick: Barty 2-0 @10/11
Men’s Picks.
Novak Djokovic vs Cristian Garin, 1.30pm GMT
The Chilean did really well to clean up in the last round, and it’s great to see him succeeding off clay as well. But it takes an absolutely astonishing performance to take out this version of Djokovic and with a somewhat average serve and a certainly not grass-court game, it’s simply not doable. Garin’s strengths play into Djokovic’s hands and he will have a hard time finding consistent ways to win the points.
Our Pick: Djokovic 3-0 @2/9
Roger Federer vs Lorenzo Sonego, 4pm GMT
If the 6th seed is to repeat the 2019 run, a lot more rust needs to be shaken off. Relievingly though, Sonego should be an easy customer if Federer can at least keep his service game in. Serve will make the difference in this clash of the experienced and the Next generation.
Our Pick: Federer 3-1 @11/4
Marton Fucsovics vs Andrey Rublev, 12pm GMT
Fognini tested Rublev in their third round encounter, but the Russian came out unscathed. As much as this is only his first foray into the second week at Wimbledon, the hard-hitting 5th seed has been imperious this season. Rublev also has a solid edge over his opponent wining their last four meetings.
Our Pick: Rublev 3-0 @1/1
