The Championships, Wimbledon, commonly known simply as Wimbledon or The Championships, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and is widely regarded as the most prestigious.
Fabio Fognini vs Andrey Rublev, 11am GMT
This should be good. Fognini has a decisive lead in the head-to-head, but they have never faced each other on grass and most of these took place before the Russian became a top player. It’s probably Rublev’s weakest surface but he’s playing so well that he can succeed on it as well. He’ll also give his best in every point, which is not quite certain when it comes to his opponent.
Our Pick: Rublev 3-1 @14/5
Denis Shapovalov vs Andy Murray, 4.30pm GMT
You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but the old dog is doing really well at adapting to his current physical abilities and working his way around them. It’s not unthinkable that he can get Shapovalov as well, after all the Canadian is not the best grass-court player out there and remains wildly inconsistent at times, which plays into Murray’s playstyle well. Wishful thinking? Maybe but what is for sure he will bring the passion.
Our Pick: Murray Win @11/4
Novak Djokovic vs Denis Kudla, 2pm GMT
Kudla is fine on grass, and he always plays well at Wimbledon, but nothing in his game can challenge Djokovic. Djokovic can give away a set if he plays poorly, but this will entirely depend on the World #1’s level.
Our Pick: Djokovic 3-1 @4/1
Karolina Pliskova vs Tereza Martincova, 11pm GMT
No one was looking at Pliskova coming into this Wimbledon and perhaps that’s the position from which she’ll be most dangerous. The Czech is always a threat on the grass, even if the previous editions of the Championships weren’t that great for her. The draw’s opening up too and she seems to be getting more comfortable on the court than in last months.
Our Pick: Pliskova 2-0 @8/11
Ons Jabeur vs Gabrine Muguruza, 1.30pm GMT
What a blockbuster this is. The former champion hasn’t been challenged at all yet, while Jabeur only had to fend off Venus Williams for a set before the American ran out of steam. The Tunisian had the better warm-up and this should be a brilliant match between two players whose level often varies between games and sets. Jabeur has the tools to disrupt rhythm and perhaps she’s finally at a place when she can win matches like that on a regular basis.
Our Pick: Jabeur Win @11/8
