Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions
Olga Govortsova vs Coco Vandeweghe, 2pm GMT
Vandeweghe has struggled with injuries and for form for years now. However, she’s finally finding a measure of consistency and health. She’s always liked the grass, and now she has another chance to show it.
Our Pick: Coco 2-0 @10/11
Kristyna Pliskova vs Danka Kovinic, 11pm GMT (Possible Wednesday)
Despite having a game well-suited to grass, Pliskova has only managed to reach the third round at Wimbledon once. The Czech is also having a poor year, her record being 3-9, with all wins coming in Doha qualifying. Kovinic is having a better year compared to Pliskova, reaching the final at Charleston; however, she has never won a main draw match at Wimbledon.
Our Pick: Pliskova 2-0 @11/10
Serena Williams vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 3.30pm GMT
You can expect Serena to start slow, shaking off the rust. Without any tournament play since the French Open, the American superstar will need time to find her form. Sasnovich may well take the first set. Yet, the Sasnovich serve is the Belarusian’s pain point–one which Serena will punish.
Our Pick: Williams 2-1 @7/2
Roger Federer vs Adrian Mannarino, 2.30pm GMT
Roger Federer will of course be the favourite coming into this match, but Adrian Mannarino’s chances should not be dismissed out of hand. The Frenchman has a good record on the grass and his unorthodox style ensures he is never a straightforward opponent to face. Ultimately, however, Federer’s range of offensive weapons should give him a decisive edge.
Our Pick: Federer 3-1 @14/5
Jaume Munar vs Ilya Ivashka, 9am GMT (Possible Wednesday)
Ivashka was in great form in the warm-ups and Munar’s game is really unsuited for grass. If the Belarusian plays like he against Federer in Halle, this could be a comfortable victory.
Our Pick: Ivashka 3-0 @13/8
